karen

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Karen spoke to Barnard College about why she decided to pursue architecture. Read the interview here.

Karen was honored as the Claire Tow Professor of Professional Practice in Architecture at Barnard earlier this academic year. She is one of 12 endowed chairs generously supported by the Tow Foundation.

Karen Fairbanks joined the AIA New York Chapter’s 2017 Board of Directors as Director for Educational Affairs. She previously served on the Scholarship Committee and as Co-Chair of the NYC AIA Design Awards Committee. A full list of this year’s Board can be found here.

Karen will be participating in the panel discussion “Where are Libraries Headed?” presented by Brooklyn Public Library and the Architectural League of New York at the Brooklyn Book Festival.
The event is this Sunday, 11am, at the Brooklyn Historical Society. It is free and open to the public, so we hope to see you there!

Thanks, The Brooklyn Paper, for highlighting the event!

Event details can be found here.

Our own Karen Fairbanks has been awarded the 2015 Educator Award by the New York State AIA! Since she began at Barnard College’s Department of Architecture in 1996 (and since overseeing the merger of Barnard and Columbia Architecture as department chair), Karen has developed the curriculum’s engagement with urbanism, data analysis, and new forms of digital media and communication. Congrats Karen!
